SyncBackSE is intended for data synchronization, backup, and restoration. It supports transferring between various types of locations, including standard folders, FTP sites, and MTP devices. Not only that, you can synchronize data with other devices, even if they are running macOS or Android, by installing SyncBack Touch on them.
Although the tool has a quite straightforward interface, using it requires some experience with this type of program. For that reason, and also due to the risks involved in configuring a synchronization profile wrongly, the developers advise not to mess with the default parameters until you are familiar with them. Therefore, it is great that there are two modes (easy and expert) of creating a new profile.
Besides selecting the source and the destination of the transfers, you can also pick a method. First, there is a backup, which copies files in one direction only. Second, a synchronization makes a two-way copy. Luckily, there is the possibility of using SmartSync, which keeps a history of the last synchronization, and thus avoids transferring data unnecessarily. Last, there is mirroring, which transfers data in one direction but also deletes those files that are no longer present in the source.
To minimize user intervention, SyncBackSE allows setting a group of rules. These tell the program what to do when specific file copy conflicts appear. So, you can decide what to do, for example, keeping both files, overwriting the file on the destination, etc., based on the modification time or size of the items. more
