SyncBackSE

Back up and synchronize data between computers, external storage, and FTP.

SyncBackSE is intended for data synchronization, backup, and restoration. It supports transferring between various types of locations, including standard folders, FTP sites, and MTP devices.

Not only that, you can synchronize data with other devices, even if they are running macOS or Android, by installing SyncBack Touch on them.

Although the tool has a quite straightforward interface, using it requires some experience with this type of program. For that reason, and also due to the risks involved in configuring a synchronization profile wrongly, the developers advise not to mess with the default parameters until you are familiar with them. Therefore, it is great that there are two modes (easy and expert) of creating a new profile.

Besides selecting the source and the destination of the transfers, you can also pick a method. First, there is a backup, which copies files in one direction only. Second, a synchronization makes a two-way copy. Luckily, there is the possibility of using SmartSync, which keeps a history of the last synchronization, and thus avoids transferring data unnecessarily. Last, there is mirroring, which transfers data in one direction but also deletes those files that are no longer present in the source.

To minimize user intervention, SyncBackSE allows setting a group of rules. These tell the program what to do when specific file copy conflicts appear. So, you can decide what to do, for example, keeping both files, overwriting the file on the destination, etc., based on the modification time or size of the items.

Since most users want to automate the whole process, it is excellent that you can group various profiles that can be executed as a single operation. Likewise, the tool supports scheduling profiles to run at given times and frequency or when such events as system shutdown or startup occur. In addition, you can execute specific actions directly from the command line or a batch file.

It is true that sending data over a network, and most of all, Internet, entails some risks. As a solution, SyncBackSE supports secure transfers using reliable encryption algorithms. Another critical issue is storage space usage. So, to help save space, the tool can compress files in ZIP format.

SyncBackSE belongs to a family of similar products, which differ in price and features. So, if you are running on a tight budget or synchronizing is not a crucial operation for you, it is possible that you may want to use the SyncBackFree, available at no cost. On the other hand, if you feel SyncBackSE does not meet all your requirements, then, you might like to try SyncBackPro, which has additional features, such as support of SFTP, backup of email messages, synchronization and backup via an email server, backup directly to a disc, profile scripting, automatic disk failure detection, and some others. My advice: try them all before making a decision.

Basic but ok. Lacks a lot of useful features found in other backup programs.

Is this product also gone commercially?

Yes it is, but there is also a free version with quite a lot of features (and in the past this was still updated from time to time).
